 Past

The myth of Alantis have fascinated the imagination for generations, and over the course of time there have been countless expeditions to discover the lost city. There are those who claim that if the city had truly existed that its locations would have been uncovered by now, and its existence had always been the product of the imagination. Others disagree with this assessment. They say there are many secrets within the world waiting to be discovered, and those hidden within the ocean depths are the hardest to uncover. And those who lean towards the belief that Alantis existed were correct. It was not just a city, but an empire that was regarded as the greatest empire to ever exist. They were a perfect blend of technology and nature, and they pride themselves on this fact. Even during their height, they were an enigma to the rest of the world. This was because they had closed their borders to the rest of the world only allowing outsiders to enter every now and then. Many regarded it as a Utopia and even the citizens were hard press to deny this claim when comparing Alantis to the rest of the world.

Through, all was not as perfect as it seemed. Dethan was born among one of the poorer communities whose members were often abducted for experimentations. The authorities claimed these experiments were done for the greater good, and those who were apart of them were held in the highest esteem. It was lies. Those who died within them were tossed within mass graves and those who returned came back as former shells of themselves. Dethan lost his father and three siblings to these experiments and a piece of his mother was chipped away with each one. There were many nights he would listen to her sobs until one day she just vanished. He was not left to his own device. While poor the community were a close knit one and children always had someone to look after them. It quickly became clear that Dethan was a clever child with an insatiable curiosity about the world and its working. Those around him tried to satisfy his thirst for knowledge, but eventually it became clear that he needed to go elsewhere to reach his full potential.

However, they knew that convincing Dethan to leave on his own accord would be impossible. While he was curious, he had no desire to leave the community. It was for this reason they decided to spread rumors that he was the bastard son of a highly important member of Atlantean society, and the authorities would be duty bound to come and see if there were any truth to these rumors. It was there hope that upon seeing Dethan they would recognize his talent and take him away-- regardless of how unfounded these rumors were. They came and just as was hoped Dethan was whisked away, but it was not for the merit of his talents. They claimed the rumors had been founded to be true, but there are those who believe that it was a cover-up to keep the downtrodden from knowing Dethan had been risen on his own merits and to prevents others from trying the same. For many the fact Dethan now had a chance to truly soar was enough. While others didn't think it was right for the truth to be covered. It was an disagreement that lead to a massacre within the community years later.

The world Dethan entered was vastly different from the one he knew. It was one where every convince of Atlantean society were made available to him. It was, also, one where the closeness of the community was a foreign concept. There was no sense of connection, and he often felt alone even standing in a middle of a crowded room. It was this overwhelming sense of loneliness that had him turning towards humor, and this in turn kept others from taking him too seriously. Through, the brilliance of his mind tended to shine through every now and then. Some believed he was wasting his gifts with his jokes and were outraged by this fact. They claimed if they had half his talents, they would focus more on their studies than whatever stupid mischief Dethan got into. Everything changed with he met her--Elana--a beautiful blonde who was the daughter of one of the council members.

They met at a gala and from the very moment his eyes met hers he was captivated. Those around him tried to discourage his interest within her. They told him that she was out of his league. There was no way her family would approve her marrying someone of his stature. He didn't heed their words, and decided then and there that he was going to make Elana his wife. There were many bumps along the way towards this goal---including the initial disapproval of her family. Eventually he won them over, and their fondness for him was obvious for anyone to see. Elana often told him he charmed the sun to rise every morning, and that he should use that same charm to change things about Atlantean society he didn't approve of. It was through this encouragement that he made efforts to end the forced experimentations upon the poorer citizens of the empire. Elana and Dethan had three daughters and while some wandered how Elana could be with someone like Dethan it was clear they were very much in love.

Over the years talks of opening their borders to the outside world, but those opposed to the idea managed to sway the decision in their favor until one day they didn't, and Atlantis for the first time in centuries was opened to the outside. Those in favor of the idea claimed that this was a good thing. They could help enlighten the rest of the world--uplift those people still living within archaic ways. Those against the idea that open mingling with outsiders was the beginning of the end for Atlantis, but if one asked Dethan he would say that fate of Atlantis was sealed regardless of their borders being opened or not, because Atlantean scientist had found the cure to every known illness of the time. They, however, could not find a way to evade death. Try as they might they were unable stop the effects of the passage of time had upon the human body. They were able to slow it significantly. but to stop it altogether was an entirely different story.

The government actively encouraged scientist like Dethan to conduct experiments in pursuit of this goal, and it is said that the decision to open the border was by the belief that they would have access to human test subjects after Dethan had effectively ended mass experimentations upon the poorer Atlanteans. They hoped the outsiders were just as eager for the secrets of immortality as they were and gladly offer people for their experiments. Their prediction of the outsiders was correct and many even joined the Atlanteans within these experiments. Dethan wanted nothing to do with them. He actively spoke up against them, claiming these experiments were offensive to the gods themselves and if they continued down this path, they would bring the gods wrath down upon them. His words went unheeded by his own people and the outsiders were encouraged to do the same by being convinced that Dethan was a brilliant madman.

The day Dethan dreaded finally arrived. The Atlanteans believed they had finally found the elixir to immortality, and everyone was to gather so they could all benefit from this discovery. The children would drink first. Dethan tried to keep his daughters as far away from this as he could, but Elana's parents--like many Atlanteans--didn't share his reservations and they feared that there was truth behind the rumor that there wasn't enough elixir to go around. Upon hearing where his children had been taken, he rushed to prevent them from sharng the horrible fate that he was certain was waiting for them, but he arrived to late. He arrived just as his three daughters along with all the other children who drank the elixir were turned into stone statue, and the fury of the gods began to rain down upon them as the heavens spit balls of fire at them and Atlantis began to sink beneath their feet. Chaos exploded as people began to try to escape the sinking empire. Others refused to leave their stoned children and a few yet drank the elixir in some false hope that the outcome would be different for them.

Dethan's one thought was Elana. There was nothing to be done for his daughters, but that didn't mean he couldn't save his wife. He rushed to her last known location--his science lab. He was overjoyed when he discovered she was still there. He quickly told her what had happened and that they needed to leave this very instant, but she told him that was impossible. He didn't understand at first. He thought perhaps she didn't realize the severity of the situation, but then the horrific truth sank in. His wife had locked herself within his lab to prevent a foreigner who had develop interest within her from whisking her away during the chaos of the city sinking, and while the doors were time released, they would not open before Atlantis finished sinking. He tried desperately to break into his own lab, but nothing he did worked. He could only watch his wife die before his eyes while he was powerless to stop it. Any desire to flee the sinking city died with Elana, and with every intention of being dragged down with Atlantis when it completely sank within the ocean he remained where he was, but unlike countless others who had been dragged down into the depth Dethan was left floating within the ocean.

He thought he had been spurned by the gods. He thought he was being punished for failing to save not only his family but his entire civilization, but jokes on them he would make no effort to find land and eventually he would die. If luck was on his side when he perished, he would still be within the confines of Atlantis and when his body sank within the deep it would end up with his beloves. Luck, however, weren't on his side. He was found by a vampire named Nikola, who decided to change him because she found him to be very interesting.

Present

He wanted nothing to do with this gift she had gave him. He wanted to die not live forever, and he made this fact perfectly clear. He refused to drink blood. Refused to obey the vampire laws in hopes that would convince them to end him. He did everything within his power to end himself. And flung himself at countless hunters in a vain attempt to get one of them to end him, after many centuries it became clear what he sought was not his to have. It was believed that when this realization hit him that he would embrace being a vampire, but instead he decided to go into a deep slumber. He believed one of two things he could sleep into oblivion or when he finally awoken someone would have unlocked the secret to kill him. It is unclear how long he slept, but when he awoke. He found himself within a world vastly different from the one he had fallen asleep within. And upon waking up one thing became perfectly clear---his Elana had been reborn. He isn't certain how he knows this, but there is no doubt within his mind that she had.

For the first time in eons, his desire to perished vanished. It was instead replaced by this overwhelming urge to find his Elana and keep her safe from anything that might wish her harm. He would not fail her again. He would tear the very heavens apart to keep her safe if he needed to, and with that said he went out to find her.
